Some details about Parent Surveys
Parent surveys will be treated confidentially even if you ask for their names. I export the names in a separate document than the other survey respones. Names are not linked to their responses unless they say something in an open ended question that identifies who they are.
How to get parents to take the surveys
- Offer a prize- exported names can be printed on slips and drawn at an event for a prize
- Have computers available during fall registration so parents can do the online survey
- Have computers available at the winter concerts, after plays, or at any other school event so parents can take the online survey
- Offer a reduction in next semester's fees for taking the survey
- Offer a paper version:
- Paper versions can be inputted by hand by a student (TA) at the school site
- Paper versions can be mailed back to Online School Surveys to be scanned- note: if OSS is going to scan paper surveys, they also have to print them and mail them to you.
What to ask parents?
Ideally with each survey you create you have already identified some changes you want to make on campus. Use the survey to figure out what the parents think about proposed changes.
Some question topics common to many parent surveys include:
- How safe do they feel their children are on campus
- Quality of teaching in each subject area
- Quality of programs the school provides
- How well the school communicates with the parents
- Opportunities students have to experience real-life situations
- Satisfaction with education their other children received at the school
